Today God used Instagram to show up and encourage me! I was able to have a really uplifting conversation with a forever friend via Instagram and I read several things that encouraged me, one of which was from Steven Furtick and I shared it in order to encourage others, because it was that good and that timely!
It just reminded me that God can and will use anything to get His message out. It also reminded me that it really is all about who you follow and what they share that can determine the impact on your life.
Tonight I got to teach someone about Twitter for a school assignment, and I left so pumped! Twitter is not even my favorite social media platform, but I honestly loved every moment! We met for an hour and I was able to ask a lot of questions that made her think, show her examples of others in her industry, and give her a crash course of the ends and outs of Twitter! I also showed her Periscope because I think it could be a useful tool for what she does (and Twitter owns them) she left excited and had fun!
After the meeting was over, I could feel the joy rushing through my body and I couldn’t stop smiling, I told William that I need to figure out a way to do what I just did full time because I absolutely loved it! I forgot how good it felt to do something I loved doing! Tonight was definitely a rekindling of a fire that was put out and I’m excited!
I want to go into organizations and teach them how to use social media for their benefit.
If I write it out it has to come to pass, right?!
So consider this my faith goal, and the beginning of something to come!
It’s true! In the age of modern technology with social media it can get hard to stop writing your thoughts and conversations and actually pick up a phone and call someone. But when you do it’s most refreshing to your soul! I just did it! Like right now and just hearing my friend’s voice which I haven’t actually heard in about six months brought tears to my eyes. Hearing her voice just reminded me that I actually do have friends and they actually love me enough to talk to me on the phone… even if it was only for a few minutes.
I communicate via Facebook and email quite often but I am going to make it a habit of picking up the phone and calling people more often and telling them how much I love and miss them, even if I have to leave a voice-mail; just so they can hear my voice and know that I was thinking about them! Hopefully you are doing a better job of calling people than I am but if you are like me and rely heavily on written communication may I kindly challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and pick up the phone and call someone you’re missing, or just someone you haven’t actually talked to in a while. I’m sure you’ll be blessed by it and so will the person on the other line.
Yeah It may be hard to believe but connections with other people can happen anywhere! Sometimes it may be people you meet at work, or the grocery store at the local coffee shop and sometimes connections can happen on a social-media network like Facebook or Twitter.
I have made some great connections through all of these places and know that those relationships will continue to flourish even if it’s a continued note of encouragement!! I’m not saying that you have to go out and meet all of your Facebook and Twitter friends in person but I am saying keep an open mind and heart and enjoy the connections that you happen upon.
So for those of you who follow me on twitter or Facebook but mostly twitter, please consider this my formal apology for serial posting on your timeline… I had no idea that even if I opted not to post to Facebook or twitter that somehow you’d still have to see every where that I checked in to… I guess it just comes with the territory of discovery.
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, foursquare is a social media tool that lets you “check in” to all the different places that you visit throughout your day. You can add tips for some of your favorite places as well as pictures. You can also see what your other friends are up to simply by adding them to your friends list. Every time you check into a place you get points and the person with the most points for a particular place becomes the “Mayor” of that place which I think is everyone’s secret goal!
It takes a few times to remember to check in especially if places don’t have that lovely sign to remind you to do so… but once you get the hang of it, it can become quite the adventure! I have recently won the “overshare” badge because I “checked in” to 10+ places within 12 hours however, in my defense it’s not my fault…
I had no idea that it would be so easy to earn badges and points and anyone who knows me knows I am very prize oriented! So I always want to check in. I mean the main reason why I even started in the first place was because I was tired of reminding my husband to check in everywhere (I could have been “Mayor” of at least two places by now)!!
So now that I have learned most of the ends and outs of foursquare I think I might keep it at least until I become “Mayor” of a few of my favorite places… or until I found a different social media tool to try out! Any suggestions on what I should try next?
In reality I am looking to try a ton of social media tools out so that when it comes to suggesting which tools to use for future clients (in the Public Relations field) who are looking to expand their reach I will be knowledgeable on most of them and can tell them which would be the right pick for their business. So I am definitely open to any and all suggestions.
