Doing what I love!

Tonight I got to teach someone about Twitter for a school assignment, and I left so pumped! Twitter is not even my favorite social media platform, but I honestly loved every moment! We met for an hour and I was able to ask a lot of questions that made her think, show her examples of others in her industry, and give her a crash course of the ends and outs of Twitter! I also showed her Periscope because I think it could be a useful tool for what she does (and Twitter owns them)  she left excited and had fun!

After the meeting was over, I could feel the joy rushing through my body and I couldn’t stop smiling, I told William that I need to figure out a way to do what I just did full time because I absolutely loved it! I forgot how good it felt to do something I loved doing! Tonight was definitely a rekindling of a fire that was put out and I’m excited!

I want to go into organizations and teach them how to use social media for their benefit.

If I write it out it has to come to pass, right?!

So consider this my faith goal, and the beginning of something to come!
Continued Blessings,
Terri

Sometimes You Just Need To Pick Up The Phone And Call Somebody!

It’s true! In the age of modern technology with social media it can get hard to stop writing your thoughts and conversations and actually pick up a phone and call someone. But when you do it’s most refreshing to your soul! I just did it! Like right now and just hearing my friend’s voice which I haven’t actually heard in about six months brought tears to my eyes. Hearing her voice just reminded me that I actually do have friends and they actually love me enough to talk to me on the phone… even if it was only for a few minutes.

I communicate via Facebook and email quite often but I am going to make it a habit of picking up the phone and calling people more often and telling them how much I love and miss them, even if I have to leave a voice-mail; just so they can hear my voice and know that I was thinking about them! Hopefully you are doing a better job of calling people than I am but if you are like me and rely heavily on written communication may I kindly challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and pick up the phone and call someone you’re missing, or just someone you haven’t actually talked to in a while. I’m sure you’ll be blessed by it and so will the person on the other line.

Connections Can Happen Anywhere

Yeah It may be hard to believe but connections with other people can happen anywhere! Sometimes it may be people you meet at work, or the grocery store at the local coffee shop and sometimes connections can happen on a social-media network like Facebook or Twitter.

I have made some great connections through all of these places and know that those relationships will continue to flourish even if it’s a continued note of encouragement!! I’m not saying that you have to go out and meet all of your Facebook and Twitter friends in person but I am saying keep an open mind and heart and enjoy the connections that you happen upon.

The Adventures Of Discovering Social Media: foursqaure

So for those of you who follow me on twitter or Facebook but mostly twitter, please consider this my formal apology for serial posting on your timeline… I had no idea that even if I opted not to post to Facebook or twitter that somehow you’d still have to see every where that I checked in to… I guess it just comes with the territory of discovery.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, foursquare is a social media tool that lets you “check in” to all the different places that you visit throughout your day. You can add tips for some of your favorite places as well as pictures. You can also see what your other friends are up to simply by adding them to your friends list. Every time you check into a place you get points and the person with the most points for a particular place becomes the “Mayor” of that place which I think is everyone’s secret goal!

It takes a few times to remember to check in especially if places don’t have that lovely sign to remind you to do so… but once you get the hang of it, it can become quite the adventure! I have recently won the “overshare” badge because I “checked in” to 10+ places within 12 hours however, in my defense it’s not my fault…

Have you checked in?

I had no idea that it would be so easy to earn badges and points and anyone who knows me knows I am very prize oriented! So I always want to check in. I mean the main reason why I even started in the first place was because I was tired of reminding my husband to check in everywhere (I could have been “Mayor” of at least two places by now)!!

So now that I have learned most of the ends and outs of foursquare I think I might keep it at least until I become “Mayor” of a few of my favorite places… or until I found a different social media tool to try out! Any suggestions on what I should try next?

In reality I am looking to try a ton of social media tools out so that when it comes to suggesting which tools to use for future clients (in the Public Relations field) who are looking to expand their reach I will be knowledgeable on most of them and can tell them which would be the right pick for their business. So I am definitely open to any and all suggestions.

Making Joseph Kony Famous…

Joseph Kony

make him famous today!!!

I just sat and watched the movie that has been crowding my Facebook updates for the last couple of days and honestly I didn’t want to watch it because it was 30 minutes! I know I know I’ve repented already… Once I realized that I had wasted about the same amount of time on two longer than usual YouTube videos I decided that it was time for me to watch this video…

To be perfectly honest, it was a bittersweet moment for me…Yes I’m glad I watched it, but now I am truly saddened first by my attitude and second by all the lives that are being affected by Kony’s reign. I have never been one to join or head up a cause but I feel like the least I can do is take a stand for  the invisible children who fear for their lives every day!

I plan on making Joseph Kony famous the best way I know how, via my blog, and my other social media networks. I also plan on writing the policy makers and telling everyone I know about what is going on because he MUST be stopped!

If you are a fellow blogger please take the time to make a special post or continuous posts about this movement! If you are into social media; blast it out to all of your networks, spread the word, let people know what is going on! If you just like to talk, talk about what is going on, who Kony is and what he’s doing.

But most of all if you are a mighty man, woman, or child of prayer please join with me by praying that he be found, arrested, and justice be served this year! Please do your part in making Joseph Kony famous so that he will be arrested in 2012!! Watch the movie, you won’t regret it…

Church Planting Boot Camp: Day 1

I know that a lot of you may be wondering what this is and in fact so was I…  I still can’t quite put a finger on how to explain it, but the best way that I can try to describe it so far is: a place of preparation for future or current church planters. It’s a place to gather and bounce off of each other a place to support one another and to come along side with and pray for one another and all of the wonderful churches each group represents…

I’ll be apart of the boot camp for the next four days and I’ll be sharing some of my takeaways from each day… so here it goes…

Today the one thing that really stuck with me is the concept of allowing The Gospel to grip your heart DAILY! Yes you read that right; DAILY!!! I know that I think about it at least once a month when we take communion at church for sure and there might be a few other times when I am really sharing my testimony and realize where I would have been if I had never heard The Gospel… but to dig that deep on a DAILY basis well my goodness it’s a new concept; a complete paradigm shift and I am absolutely bought in to this new way of life! I have no idea what it’s going to look like but I know that my relationship with Jesus is about to be catapulted into the next hemisphere and the thought of being that much closer to Jesus brings such a warm smile to my face.

All I know is once I get something into my heart and into my head It is hard for me to shake it…so here I go starting my new way of life one day at a time… I will surely keep you updated on how this one seemingly small decision is affecting my life. Stay tuned…

On the lighter side of things… I also learned more about social media strategies and was super excited. Thelma Bowlen (you can find her website here) came in to speak to us church planters. She shared with us the importance of social media and the role it can play in helping us get our churches out there into the rest of the world or community we are trying to reach. She had a lot of awesome tips and a lot of different tools we could use… it was super informative if you’re into social media that is…

well that was my first day at the Every Nation Church Planting Boot Camp… It was definitely eye-opening and way less scary than I thought it would be. Not to mention I met some really awesome people planting all over the world to include East Nashville, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Canada, South Africa, and Belize… Oh the places I will go!!!
